This is more of a note for myself, for the next time I visit San Francisco -- some suggestions of places to go by my friend Mary -
Splurge -
Boulevard
Michael Mina
Chinese -
dim sum Koi Palace (Daly City)
Santa Ramen -- actually have never been but heard great things. Ramen is awesome in SF!
San Tung -- the best Korean/Chinese fried chicken wings in the world. Caramelized, slightly spicy, and super crisp.
other Asian --
Slanted Door! If you can't get reservations at the Ferry Building, go to the casual one at the Westfield Mall by Union Square. The IMperial Spring Rolls are GOOD. (Vietnamese) -- a top 100 restaurant in the country -- Food and Wine, I think, or another foodie mag I jsut read.
Ferry building -- also has a good Mexican place plus Hog Oysters, which are yummy.
If you have time, drive to Pt. Reyes and have fresh caught oysters by the bay at a picnic table -- bring drinks or bread and cheese. Jon and I did this -- they will sell you a dull oyster knife so you can shuck a bunch yourself. YUMMY.
and from Horace:
If you venture to Napa, Thomas Keller's French Laundry, Ad hoc or Bouchon are also very delicious.
Amber India in downtown SF has a great Indian lunch buffet.
